Ok, so we know silk florals look real and we know they feel real. But how do your artificial flowers stand the test of smell? Here are five simple ways to convince even the most suspicious of guests.
1. Essential Oils
Sprinkle a few drops of an essential oil or burning oil onto the underside of your silk flowers or onto the stems, being careful not to stain the petals. If you are looking to replicate the scent of real flowers, be sure to pick a believable scent. Tea tree oil, for example, is a far cry from the real scent of a gerbera. Vanilla, on the other hand, blends nicely with any silk flower arrangement.
2. Perfume
A quick spritz of your favorite perfume could work wonders on an artificial orchid. Also try perfume that you might be bored of using on yourself – it could compliment your artificial flowers more than you expect.
3. Air Freshener
Air fresheners can really liven up silk arrangements. Again, this could stain petals so be careful to apply to the underside only. Of course, a floral scent would be more believable than ‘Ocean Breeze’.
4. Fabric Freshener
Silk flowers are made of fabric after all. If you’re already spraying your curtains and your sofa, perhaps spraying the silk centerpiece wouldn’t be that crazy.
5. Scented Candles
Setting a scented candle near a silk bouquet is a great way to add scent to your silks without spraying them directly. It will last a long time and the candle doesn’t even have to be lit to smell divine.
Of course, not all real flowers carry a strong scent these days so if your chosen scent or oil does wear off a little with time, your secret is still safe.

The submission receiving the most votes (”likes”) during the Voting Period will be deemed the winner, subject to verification. Be sure to get your family and friends to vote for you!
Grand Prize By submitting a picture of one of your not-so-pretty silk arrangements, you will be eligible to win a $300 Floral & Hearty gift card for yourself!
Rules: All decisions on winner selection will be based on the data received from the independent third-party website hosting company. The decisions of the Challenge Administrator will be final and binding on all matters related to this Challenge. In the event of a tie for most votes among the Finalists, the Finalist among those that are tied that received the highest judges’ score from Floral & Hearty in Phase 1 Judging will be deemed the winner. One of the most common requests I hear from clients is that they are looking for a dining room centerpiece, but they don’t know where to start and what will look best. When I begin asking a few questions, I can see this is where I lose them! If you’re going to get a centerpiece custom made, “guesstimates” are not the way to go. Make it easier on yourself (and me!) and save time by knowing the following three key pieces of information BEFORE you start shopping:
(1) Know the overall design concept for the room i.e. traditional, modern, transitional, etc.
(2) Measure the distance from the table to the bottom of your light fixture and the total length of the table.
(3) Bring in swatches of fabric and/or the room’s paint color. It’s also helpful to bring a digital photo of the area.
Since the possibilities are literally endless, when you have this information, our experienced staff will be able to help narrow your choices by eliminating options that just don’t fit or work with your room. Remember, the more prepared you are, the better we can help guide you!
